Barista at The Boulevard Coffee Roasting Company

I spent 15 months between 2017-2020 working as a barista at The Boulevard, where I learned valuable skills in customer service, working independently, and task management.

My time at The Boulevard has taught me so much more than I expected from a Barista job. I have always liked the idea of crafting something for a customer and them enjoying my hard-work, so working as a Barista fulfilled these goals.

I worked primarily as a closer, which meant that I needed to co-ordinate with a partner to simultaneously clean the cafe to prepare for closing, interact with customers, and prepare food and drinks. Working in this environment was challenging at times, but has taught me how to multitask effectively and organize my time to make sure everything is done properly. This also involved communicating effectively with my partner on the shift, and always keeping each-other in the loop of what we were doing.

I enjoyed this position because it brought me closer to the community at UBC and allowed me to gain insight into the lives of people I usually would not interact with.
