I begun at AHSA as a General Executive, meaning that I was happy to help with anything I could. This involved attending a weekly meeting and voicing my opinion on how to best utilize the funds we collected, and what kinds of experiences would be most valuable.
As part of this experience I represented AHSA at the Arts Undergraduate Student Council, a bi-weekly meeting of student representatives from UBC's Faculty of Arts to discuss policy and new initiatives. Through this, I learned about the structure of non-profit organizations in Canada and the bureaucratic issues which arise, as well as gaining and interest in local politics and the ways campus communities are formed.
I also took part in planning several events, including a Film Screening which I spearheaded and a departmental trip to Seattle. Making decisions about facilities, dates, and other issues in event planning were difficult within a group environment, but ultimately these events were within budget and went smoothly.
I am continuing my work at AHSA in September of 2020 as an Event Coordinator, where I hope to further the Art History department as inclusive and accessible for every student in our department.
